Coaches will utilize the following steps to proceed through the character selection and stage-striking processes on their match day.
One of the more complex aspects of our leagues has been the match setup processes for our coaches. To best address this and provide clarity on the process step-by-step, our engineers have developed the Match Assistant.
For Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate matches specifically, the Match Assistant tool is available to help you proceed through the Fighter (herein character) selection and stage-striking process from within the match lobby page.
Opening the Match Lobby Page
Open up the match you are looking to manage.
From the "Lobby" tab, Locate the Match Assistant tool to the right of your Match Lobby Chat.
Be sure to use Lobby Chat on the left to introduce yourself, and if you are the Home team, please communicate Arena IDs and Passwords as soon as possible.
Once both teams are ready, both Coaches can select the "Start" button to be taken to the Intermission, where the players competing in Game 1 for Series 1 will be shown.
If you are ever stuck, Firebob will be right there along the way to guide you through the tool!
Game 1 Setup
When your player is ready, select the "Choose Your Character" button to begin the character selection process for Game 1.
Use the dropdown, or type in the box to locate the Fighter your player will be competing with, then select the "Confirm Your Character" button.
Once each team has confirmed their character, the matchup will be revealed to both teams, and coaches can then click the "Continue" button to proceed to the stage-striking phase of Game 1.
The following phase alternates between home and away teams' control - The team not in control will see a "Waiting on opponent" dialog, with the button greyed out.
The Home Team will select one of the five stages to strike for Game 1, then click the "Confirm Your Strikes" button.
The Away team will then see which stage has been removed from play by the Home Team, and follow by striking two more stages from play, then selecting the "Confirm Your Strikes" button.
The Home team will then see the remaining two stages and pick which stage they wish to play. Once the stage has been picked, the Home team will select the "Play On STAGE" button.
The STAGE will be replaced with whichever stage has been picked for that Game by the choosing team.
With the stage-striking and character selection phases complete, the tool will provide a Match Preview, highlighting the two players competing, the fighters they have chosen, and the stage they will be competing on… the game can begin!
Once the game is complete, both coaches will return to the tool and select the "Report Results" button.
Both coaches will select the player that won Game 1 and then select the "Submit" Button to be taken to the Intermission for Game 2.
If Coaches select different winning players for a game, the tool will reject the submission and ask the coaches to resubmit the winning player.
Game 2 and Onward Setup
Once the players are ready for the next game in the series, the coaches will select the "Choose Your Character" button.
This time, the winning team from the previous game will select their character first, then select the "Confirm Your Character" button.
The character selected will be shown to the losing team from the previous game as a part of the counter-pick process. Once selected, the coach can select the "Confirm Your Character" button.
Once each team has confirmed their character, both coaches can select the "Continue" button to proceed to the stage-striking phase for Game 2 and onward.
The winning team from the previous game will strike two stages from eight available, then select the "Confirm Your Strikes" button.
The losing team from the previous game will pick one stage from the remaining list and then click the "Play On STAGE" button.
Reminder - A player cannot return to a stage they previously won on (1.6.3 Stage Return).
With the phases complete, the Match Preview will appear once more to showcase the fighters and stages for the game. Once complete, return to the tool to report your results just as you had in steps 8 and 9 of Game 1.
If Game 3 is necessary, repeat steps 1 through 7 to complete Series 1.
Once Series 1 is complete, both coaches will be taken to the Intermission to view the players competing in Series 2. When ready, select the "Choose Your Character" button and repeat the Game 1 Setup and Game 2 and Onward Setup steps complete Series 2.
Once Series 2 is complete, coaches will be taken back to Intermission if Series 3 is necessary, or to the Scoreboard, if the match is complete as an overall 2-0.
