OMW% and OOMW% FAQ

FAQ of OMW% and OOMW% scoring process.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Early on in the season, OMW/OOMW calculations may not be represented accurately due to the low number of matches. We encourage coaches to wait until at least four matches have been played before contacting Support regarding potential issues.

To simplify the process, PlayVS has launched a new tiebreaker scoring system with OMW% and OOMW%.

Background

What is OMW% and OOMW%?

Opponent match win percentage (OMW%) and Opponent opponent’s match win percentage (OOMW%) are the new tiebreaker formulas that will replace the PlayVS Score formula. They will apply to scholastic leagues.

When will OMW% and OOMW% be applied?

OMW% and OOMW% calculations will begin in the Fall ‘25 season.

What will be the full breakdown of PlayVS’ tiebreaker steps?

The new PlayVS tiebreaker steps starting in the Fall ‘25 season include:

  1. Match performance

  2. Opponent match win percentage (OMW%)

  3. Opponent opponent’s match win percentage (OOMW%)

  4. Series performance

  5. Game performance

  6. Coin flip/Lotto

Calculation

How is OMW% and OOMW% calculated?

Opponent match win percentage (OMW%)

Sum of opponent match wins / Sum of opponent matches completed.

Opponent’s Opponent match win percentage (OOMW%)

Sum of opponent opponent’s match wins / Sum of opponent opponent’s match completed.

Will historical scores be updated to the new formula?

No, historical leagues prior to Fall ‘25 will retain the PlayVS Score formula calculations.

FAQ

How are matches without an opponent calculated in this tiebreaker?

In short, they aren't! A team needs to have an opponent in order for a match to impact their opponent's match win percentage. Byes, or match queue forfeits, will not impact a team's OMW%.
