Scholarship Process
Once all PlayVS Cup matches have been completed, our team will begin the process of gathering the needed scholarship information from coaches of the teams that won or qualified for scholarships. The process and expected timeline are as follows:
PlayVS Staff reaches out to the coaches of each qualifying team to confirm player information and scholarship distribution for their individual team.
If a coach does not reply or a unique distribution is provided, all earned scholarship prizing will be distributed equally among the members of the Roster. Players listed on the Bench will not be included by default.
For example, the Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate 1st Place team will have the $3,000 split evenly, awarding $1,000 to each of the three players who participated in the championship match.
Scholarships for the PlayVS Cup 2026 must be confirmed by the coach by no later than the end of June 2026. If you have not heard from us regarding your scholarship prize by June 12th, contact PlayVS Support.
PlayVS Staff will then submit participant information and confirmed prizing allotment to our partners at Scholarship America based on their graduation year.
Participants graduating in Spring 2026 will have scholarship information sent over in July.
Participating graduates in Spring 2027 or later will have scholarship information submitted shortly after their confirmed graduation period.
Participating graduates who are already enrolled in collegiate programs (i.e., Dual Credit) or with a unique graduation period (i.e., Summer or Winter 2026) must contact PlayVS Support for alternate distribution.
After submitting participant information, Scholarship America will reach out in the following months to confirm and distribute your scholarship prize.
FAQ
How do I qualify for the PlayVS Cup 2026?
Teams will qualify through one of the following methods:
Winning a Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 PlayVS League
Winning a Fall 2025 Vanta Varsity League
Winning a Spring 2026 PlayVS League that ended on or before Saturday, May 2nd.
Leagues must follow the standard PlayVS formats to be eligible.
Through our partnership with Capcom, Street Fighter 6 has extended invites to all seasonal champions and runner-ups, as well as the Top 4 teams from the Winter Tournament.
I qualified for the Cup! How do I enroll?
PlayVS Staff will take care of all enrollments for the event. The team that earned the qualification will be enrolled. Once rosters unlock on May 4th, participating players may be updated as needed.
Which players are eligible to participate in the PlayVS Cup?
Players are required to have been enrolled in the 2025-2026 school year. Players who graduated at any point during the 2025-2026 school year are still eligible to participate. Players are not required to have participated in a previous season to participate.
Will any matches occur in-person?
No. All matches will take place virtually.
Can teams play remotely?
Yes. All teams may compete remotely unless otherwise required by their individual school administration.
When will Rosters Lock?
Rosters will lock at 10:00 AM Pacific the day of their first match. This allows schools a full 7-8 days to manage their rosters effectively, while still locking in early enough for opposing teams to prepare accordingly for their first match.
How did you determine the seeding order for the bracket if the teams haven’t played against each other?
First, we assigned "scores" to specific leagues based on their historic performance in the PlayVS Cup, with higher scores assigned to more recent PlayVS Cup participation. This score serves as a baseline to represent that league/region on a national competition scale.
Then, we applied multipliers to the school based on a team's performance over the past year, including their previous PlayVS Cup participation.
Schools received a 15% score bump per match they participated in during PlayVS Cup 2025.
Schools received a 15% score bump if they did not lose a match this season.
Schools received a 25% score bump if they earned multiple invites for the same esport over the last scholastic year (typically by winning multiple seasons).
Finally - Tiebreakers:
General:
Teams with the same score from the same league were adjusted based on their performance in the seasonal playoff brackets.
Teams with the same score from separate leagues were randomized.
Marvel Rivals (Unique)
All leagues received the same league score of one (1).
Teams with the same score were adjusted based on the qualifying league bracket size, with larger bracket sizes earning a higher seed.
Teams with the same score & bracket size were then randomized.
Street Fighter 6
By default, runner-up teams & tournament participants were seeded below all league champions.
Schools that received a "0.00" for their score were either:
A) a part of a league that had not historically participated in the PlayVS Cup, and our team was unable to align them to an equal league.
B) their finals event and/or league occurred off-platform.
Ultimately, the goal was to develop a process that provided a fairer seeding experience than fully randomized, as it was in past tournaments. We feel that this system served as a good place to start.
A full list of participating schools and their PlayVS Cup 2026 Scoring can be found here. Please note that all placements are final with matches scheduled and will not be adjusted.
When will my matches show up on my schedule page?
The first round of the bracket will appear in your Schedule page by Monday, May 11th, at 10:00 AM Pacific.
The second round and beyond will appear in your schedule page once the previous round of the bracket has been confirmed.
Should a match be overturned, resulting in a new matchup for a given bracket round, advancing teams will be notified of this by PlayVS Staff via support@playvs.com.
I see that my team received a Round 1 Bye. When will I see my Round 2 match?
Byes will be awarded to top-seeded teams in the event that a bracket is uneven (i.e., 30 teams enrolled into a Top 32 Tournament Bracket). If your team receives a Round 1 Bye, then your team will not be expected to play on May 18th or May 19th (depending on the title).
Teams will see their Round 2 match on their Schedule page as soon as the previous Round 1 match is complete and their opponent has been set.
Can I reschedule my PlayVS Cup match?
Yes! All PlayVS Cup matches will have a 24-hour window to reschedule their match by default. We encourage teams to immediately communicate their need to reschedule with their opponent and PlayVS Staff to provide the best opportunity for competition.
Note that reschedules in most instances are not required, and if a new date & time are not agreed to and approved on the PlayVS match page, then the original match time will be upheld (where standard grace period rules apply).
How can I share the bracket or schedule with my parents or administration?
Any member of our community may use the Public Links above to share information publicly about their school performance.
How do you determine the East-West Splits?
All schools are divided as shown in the images below. These are based on best practices suggested for regions for national competitions with East-West splits. Regional league participants are determined by their team's state location.
States listed in grey can be in either league based on their bracket needs. Teams will not be able to select their side in the PlayVS Cup. All matches will remain at the scheduled start time, regardless of region.
