PlayVS 2026-27 League Updates FAQ

All key information needed to compete in PlayVS leagues in the upcoming scholastic seasons.

PlayVS Leagues

Q: Why is PlayVS moving back to a paid-fee model?

A: In May 2026, PlayVS began a rapid strategic restructuring of the business in the face of unexpected operational and financial challenges. These developments required the company to move quickly, implement cost reductions, make leadership changes, and secure emerging financing on a compressed timeline. As of today, our investors remain fully confident of PlayVS’ future. We are stable, operational, and committed to serving your schools as a valued operator and platform.

Part of this strategic repositioning is to immediately switch to a more sustainable revenue model than has been implemented over the last couple of years. Starting this Fall 2026 season, PlayVS will transition back to a paid competition model. Transparently, our past decision to move off a paid model set an unrealistic expectation for our community and was not a long-term viable solution for the sustainable long-term health of the business.

As participation grows, we are investing in our platform, league operations, and our team that supports schools every day to ensure high-quality, safe, and reliable experiences. To support a more sustainable long-term model, we are introducing a paid model that enables continued investment in high-quality programs.

Q: How much is the fee and who has to pay for this fee?

Starting with the upcoming Fall season, PlayVS will be implementing an introductory full-year platform-wide access fee for all middle and high school competition, regardless of which leagues on the platform a school competes in:

  • High School Competition - $595 ($495 if paid by August 7, 2026)

  • Middle School Competition - $495 ($395 if paid by August 7, 2026)

This fee will cover all competition costs* for any season a school participates in for the 2026-27 school year, and there are no limitations on the number of titles, teams, or players a school may compete with.

*Competition in some state partner leagues may include additional fees. Please reach out to sales@playvs.com for a quote for your school.

Q: What does paid access to competitive PlayVS Leagues include?

A: We take great pride in delivering a high-quality, comprehensive league experience and continue to invest significantly in strengthening our network.

Our competitive offering is designed for schools that view esports as a meaningful extension of their academic and extracurricular programs. This membership supports the infrastructure, services, and national ecosystem required to deliver a consistent, school-aligned experience.

Benefits Include:

  • Unlimited esports competition, with the ability to field multiple teams across titles in both State and Regional competitions (where applicable).

  • Robust compliance and safety standards, including secure rostering, verification, and age-appropriate protections

  • Live league support, with real-time access to league officials during competition

  • Comprehensive game title offerings aligned with student interest and engagement

  • Enhanced competitive infrastructure, including flexible scheduling, scrimmage tools, and playoff experiences

  • School-wide access to PlayVS Recruit, connecting students to college programs and scholarship opportunities

  • A national pathway to the PlayVS Cup, including eligibility for championships and school recognition

  • Access to future PlayVS tournaments and special competition events

  • A free 2-week trial to the VALOR Esports coaching platform that can be activated at any time.

Q: If you pay for a state fee do you still have to pay the PlayVS platform fee?

A: Requirements to pay the PlayVS platform fee will vary by state. Please reach out to your state association with any questions regarding additional fees or email us at sales@playvs.com.

Q: What if the state association blocks specific titles and a school wants to pay for access in a competitive PlayVS League?

A: Schools will have access to the PlayVS Regional titles authorized by the state partner association, as has been the case in previous seasons.

Q: Will there be financial assistance programs offered?

A: Yes. To help schools with this financial transition, PlayVS will be partnering with Snap! Raise, the leading scholastic fundraising platform, to allow schools the ability to create fundraising campaigns to cover league fees in addition to other programs expenses.

Schools will be given the ability to auto-opt into a fundraising campaign as part of their school enrollment. 100% of the money raised through a Snap! The raise campaign will go directly to the program. More details to come.

Q: What if a school doesn’t reach their fundraising goal before the start of the season?

As part of PlayVS' commitment to ensuring that no school is unable to compete due to financial constraints, schools that complete the required fundraising efforts but are still unable to cover the platform fee will remain eligible to compete on the platform. No schools will be turned away.

Q: Will there still be free-to-play options?

A: We remain committed to providing free-to-play options, including scrimmages and no-cost tournaments, with more details arriving this fall.

Billing

Q: When is payment made?

A: Payment can be made now through the end of the enrollment period which ends on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Q: How does billing work?

A: Schools will have three options: pay by credit card, create a purchase order for an invoice, or set up a fundraising campaign through Snap!Raise for assistance.

Q: Are any discounts available?

A: Yes! We will be offering a $100 early-bird discount for all schools that pay before August 7, 2026.

Q: If a school unenrolls or drops out, will it get a refund for paid competition in PlayVS Leagues?

A: If the school unenrolls from all leagues before the 3rd week of competition, a credit will be applied toward future competition. Refunds will not be given.

Q: What if a player is suspended, drops out or a team is suspended/banned?

A: Payment is for a school to access the PlayVS League. Individuals and teams may be banned from competing while the school is still able to compete using other students and teams.

Q: Can we get a formal quote or invoice to present to our administration?

A: Yes. You can request a formal quote today by reaching out to sales@playvs.com. Quotes will also be available in the product.

Q: If the same program runs both the middle and high school teams, will they have to pay both membership fees?

A: Please reach out to sales@playvs.com for MS/HS combined pricing.

League Operations

Q: Are there any differences between HS/MS paid leagues? If paid MS, do they now receive competitive leagues similar to HS?

A: Starting Fall 2026, Middle School will have select paid competitive leagues options available to enroll into in addition to our recreational leagues. Competitive leagues will have a normal preseason, regular season, playoffs and finals. The only differences for paid leagues between HS and MS will be which titles are offered for that competition group.

Competitive Titles for the Middle School Fall 2026 season will include:

  • Rocket League (3v3)

  • Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate (3v3)

  • Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe (4v4)

All other middle school titles will remain in a recreational format for the Fall 2026 season.

We will announce which titles will be available for both High School and Middle School for Spring 2027 when we open enrollment for that season at a later date!
