FAQ for users who have been contacted to participate in User Experience Research (UXR)

Updated over 5 months ago

PlayVS strives to better understand our community of players and coaches to design a user-friendly service and platform that meets your needs.

What is User Experience Research?

UX Research, or User Experience Research, involves studying how you interact with our product to gain insights that help improve its design and functionality. This research is critical in ensuring the platform is intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable for you.

How do I participate?

You may be contacted via e-mail with an invitation to participate in a research session. In that invitation, you will be notified about the type and duration of the session. If you have not been contacted but would like to participate, learn how to participate.

What types of research sessions are available?

  1. Exploratory interviews

    • Purpose: To gather broad insights about your experiences, needs, and preferences.

    • What to expect: A relaxed conversation where we ask about your general thoughts and experiences with our platform. This helps us understand the bigger picture of how you use our product.

  2. Group conversation/focus group

    • Purpose: To generate conversation among a diverse group around a specific topic or feature.

    • What to expect: A structured conversation, moderated by a researcher, where you will be expected to share your thoughts and opinions as well as respond to others.

  3. Prototype tests or product tests

    • Purpose: To test specific features or interfaces, especially new or unreleased ones.

    • What to expect: You’ll be asked to perform tasks using specific features of our platform. We may observe how you interact with these features and ask for your feedback.

  4. Site visit

    • Purpose: To observe coaches and/or players using our product in real-time within their actual context.

    • What to expect: You will be asked to use our product as you would normally, while occasionally answering questions or explaining your actions.

What is our PlayVS research for?

  • Not customer service: These sessions are not meant to resolve specific issues or provide support for immediate problems. For any assistance regarding technical support issues, continue to reach out to your PlayVS contact or use our Support Interaction Policy.

  • Not sales calls: We are not trying to sell you anything during these sessions. Our focus is purely on gathering information to improve the product.

Why does your participation matter?

Your input is invaluable. By participating in UX Research, you help us:

  • Understand user needs: Gain a deeper understanding of what players and coaches like you need from our platform.

  • Improve usability: Identify areas where our product can be more intuitive and user-friendly.

  • Enhance features: Get direct feedback on new or potential features, helping us tailor them to better serve you.

Your participation helps improve PlayVS and scholastic esports for everyone.

How can you prepare for a session?

All sessions are conducted via Google Meet and will require connection with a computer webcam and microphone. Please do not connect on your phones or tablets.

Unless otherwise communicated, there is no need to “prepare” for a session, but we ask you keep these mind:

  1. Be honest: We value your honest feedback, whether positive or negative.

  2. Be open: Share your thoughts and experiences freely.

  3. Be comfortable: There are no right or wrong answers; we’re here to learn from you.

  4. Be yourself: All levels of experience are welcome. There is no need to be an expert.

What do I get for my time?

We understand that your time is valuable, and offer a gift as a thank you for your participation. This gift will be detailed in your invitation e-mail.
