Activity Types and Settings

The different types of activities that can be used in a lesson on Blueprint, as well as how Instructors can adjust activity settings.

Discussion Board

Instructors are able to create and integrate discussion board forums to allow students to discuss the topic in a unit. Instructors are able to title the discussion as desired and edit grading requirements for the students in one location. Some functions of the discussion board include:

  • Create Thread

    • Requires students to create a thread on another student’s submission on the discussion board to receive credit for an assignment.

  • Reply to Thread

    • Requires students to reply in a thread that a peer commented on in the discussion board to receive credit for an assignment.

  • Hide Until Thread Created

    • Instructors can require students to create a thread before they can see other student threads and replies.

Instructors also have the ability to view deleted comments from students.

Assignments and Tests

Instructors can create and assign assignments and tests that utilize varying forms of questions.

  • Each assignment or test can contain multiple types of questions that are deemed necessary by the Instructor.

  • Assignments and tests can be set to Automatically mark submissions as passed, Mark section as gradable, and/or have a designated point total.

    • Video: avi, ogv, webm, wmv, flv, mp4, mov, mkv, 3gp, flv, asf, mov, mpeg, mpg, m4v

    • Audio: midi, mp3, wma, wav, weba

    • Documents: txt, doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, odp, ods, odt, pdf

  • Allows students to select True or False as an answer to a question.

  • Can serve as a way to interrupt questions and provide more directions or context for items below it.

Journal

Instructors can create journal submission sections to allow students a moment of self-reflection throughout or at the end of the unit. Instructors can title the journals as desired, and the entries can be marked as graded or not. Instructors also can let students know how they can receive credit for their submission if it’s marked as not graded.


Activity Settings

To access the activity settings panel from the Gradebook:

  1. Click Grades from the left-hand side navigation bar.

  2. Confirm you have the appropriate classroom’s gradebook selected from the dropdown menu.

  3. Hover your mouse over the title of any activity.

  4. Click the three dots to the right of the assignment title to open a dropdown menu.

  5. From the dropdown menu, click Edit Activity Settings.

    • This will open the activity settings panel on the right side of the screen.

Description

Total Possible Points

  • Change this number to change the total possible points for an activity.

  • If the assignment has one or more sections, this button will simply read Section 1, 2 etc. instead of Total Possible Points.

  • If you have already graded some submissions in the activity’s column, the student’s grades will not adjust, but their total points possible will. This may affect their overall grade.

Gradable

  • Will make the activity count towards the student’s overall grades.

Auto Pass

  • Will make the activity automatically give full points on submission.

Hide Grade Until Date

  • Will make it so the grade will be hidden until a certain date.

  • Students will see a pending message indicating that the grade has not yet been applied, or that it has not yet been graded in their gradebook.
