2. Eligibility

2.1 Requirements

To participate in the Competition each Player and Roster must comply with the eligibility requirements listed below. It is the responsibility of the Player and Roster to be aware of all rules around eligibility. Rosters that field Players without first verifying their eligibility risk forfeiture of Match wins, forfeiture of Postseason qualification, and additional penalties. Please contact League Officials (support@playvs.com) if you have any questions or concerns.

2.2 School and Roster

2.2.1 Enrollment Requirement

All participating Players must be enrolled at an accredited higher learning institution (“School”) with a physical address in the United States or Canada. The School must offer at least a two-year degree program. Players are only allowed to compete for one School during the course of the Competition.

Players are generally only allowed to compete for one Roster during the Competition, except as specifically noted below, and in all cases they may only compete for one Roster during any given Week of Competition. They may not be listed on any other Rosters for the duration of that week.

All Players on a Roster must be enrolled at the same School, and must compete on behalf of that School, except under the following circumstances:

  • Individual School campuses are typically considered separate Schools for the purposes of the Competition; however, Players may be permitted to compete on another campus’s Roster if certain conditions are met. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by League Officials, and will generally follow the guidelines of the School itself with respect to shared athletics and academic programs, as per below:

    • If students from one campus are permitted to participate on another campus’s varsity sports team, or multiple campuses share one set of varsity sports teams, cross-campus eligibility requests will be considered.

    • If students from one campus are freely permitted to take classes on another campus, cross-campus eligibility requests will be considered. Students must be actively enrolled in classes on both campuses to be eligible.

2.2.2 Multi-school rosters

Players may be permitted to compete on another School’s Roster if certain conditions are met. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by League Officials, and will generally follow the guidelines of the School itself with respect to shared academic programs.

If students from one School are enrolled in a shared or integrated program with another School, cross-School eligibility requests will be considered. If only certain programs are shared

between Schools, students must be actively enrolled in one of those programs to be eligible.

2.3 Ranked Rosters

Players on a School’s Ranked Rosters may be moved to participate on their Premier Roster at any time while Rosters are unlocked or by use of an Emergency Substitution.

Ranked Rosters are considered roster and rank locked. Schools will only be able to add Players to their Ranked Rosters who are at or below the maximum rank of the respective Division. Any Player that does not have a roster or rank conflict may be added to a School’s Ranked Roster, even if those Players have participated in Premier on behalf of the School, with assistance from a League Official. Emergency substitutions will count towards this allowance. The maximum rank for each Division will be part of the Division’s name on the Competition Website.

  • Example of a Division’s title - “Ranked 1 East - Diamond” - in this example a Player must currently be ranked Diamond or lower in order to be added onto a Roster in said Conference.

  • Maximum Rank: The “maximum rank” will be determined by the average rank of the highest ranked Roster in the Division.

2.4 Roster Changes

A Roster may be added to or changed throughout the Regular Season, but a Player must be on a Roster for 24 hours before being considered eligible to play in Matches. All Rosters will be locked 24 hours prior to the default Match date/time and will be unlocked the following day. When a Roster is ‘locked’, Roster changes will not be allowed except as follows.

In the event of an unforeseen circumstance, League Officials may allow one Roster addition per season within the 24-hour Roster lock window in order to prevent a Roster from forfeiting a Match. This one-time allowance can be used in the Regular Season or the Postseason.

If the emergency substitution is used in the Postseason, the following restrictions will apply:

  • The Player being added using the Emergency Substitution must be competing in PlayVS College League on a Ranked Division Roster. Use of this emergency sub may be considered a permanent Roster Addition.

  • The Player being added using the Emergency Substitution must meet the rank restrictions of the Conference. Use of this emergency sub may be considered a permanent Roster Addition.

Players must have been listed on a Roster for at least two Matches during the Regular Season to be considered eligible to participate during the Postseason. A Roster Addition during the final week of the Regular Season will be counted as the Roster's Postseason Emergency Substitution. Emergency substitutions are exempt from the minimum number of rostered matches requirement.

2.5 Academic

Each student-athlete must have a valid email address provided by their School (i.e. example@school.edu).

Each student-athlete must be enrolled “full-time”, as determined by the academic regulations of their School. In most cases this is 12 credit hours per semester/term. Exceptions are provided for below:

  • Graduating Students: Students in their last academic semester/term may participate while enrolled in the minimum number of hours necessary to complete their degree requirements and graduate, as determined by the institution. Once this one-time allowance is used, the student-athlete must meet the full-time requirement of 12 or more credit hours.

  • Graduate Students: Graduate Students are eligible, provided they are declared "full‐time" by the academic regulations of their respective School. Verification must be available from the registrar of their respective School.

  • Co-op/Work Study: Students who are enrolled in work‐study or co‐op programs and are in the work placement section of their program are eligible, provided they are declared "full‐time" by the academic regulations of their respective School. Verification must be available from the registrar of their respective School.

Each student-athlete must be in “good standing”, as determined by the academic regulations of their School. In most cases this is a cumulative GPA of 2.0. If a School’s collegiate varsity athletics program has different GPA requirements for participation, and the student-athlete meets those requirements, an exception will be considered by League Officials upon request. A student-athlete who is in their first term/semester of post-secondary education will be considered to have satisfied the Academic Standing requirement.

Rosters are responsible for being aware of any student’s loss of eligibility for any reason, and must take appropriate proactive action to change their roster and notify League Officials.

2.6 Membership

An active PlayVS College Membership is required to participate in the Competition. For more information on obtaining a membership and its costs, please visit https://pcl.gg/pages/members.

2.7 Additional Requirements

Each Player must reside in the United States or Canada while participating in the Competition.

Employees, contractors, officers, and directors of the Administrator and any Competition sponsors, and each party’s respective parents, affiliated and subsidiary entities, are not eligible to participate in the Competition.

Any Student-athlete that is under the age of majority in their province or state of residence (each a “Minor”), must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate. If it is determined that a Student-athlete is a Minor in their province or state of residence and does not have parental consent to participate, they will be disqualified and will not be permitted to continue in the Competition. Note: Age of majority may differ depending on province or state of residence. It is each Student-athlete’s responsibility to verify the age of majority where they live.

All Student-athletes must have a LeagueSpot account. By creating an account, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to PlayVS’s Privacy Policy and LeagueSpot’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. You may receive notifications and are able to opt out at any time. There are no fees or service charges to create or maintain an account. If a Student-athlete attempts to bypass the age gate by entering a false date of birth that Student-athlete will be disqualified.

During the Competition, if it is determined by League Officials that a Student-athlete that is currently suspended due to a Code of Conduct violation, harassment of other PlayVS College League players and/or League Officials, or suspected or confirmed fraud or unfair gameplay, that Student-athlete will be considered ineligible, will be disqualified from the Competition, and, if applicable, will be required to return any prizes that may be awarded.

A Student-athlete will not be permitted to compete if they fail to meet the eligibility requirements detailed above. Administrators reserve the right to request proof of identity and/or a University/College transcript or the equivalent at any time to prove that said Student-athlete attends their School and complies with all eligibility requirements. Penalties for non-compliance with any eligibility requirements detailed above may include match forfeiture and/or disqualification for the current Competition and/or subsequent Competition. The Competition is subject to all applicable United States federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

3. Competition Structure

3.1 Notice of Changes

All details are subject to change at the discretion of the Administrator. Any changes will be communicated to each participating Player and posted on the Website (as defined below) as early as possible. Any disputes will be resolved by League Officials, whose decision shall be final, conclusive and binding. League Officials decisions shall be made strictly in accordance with these Competition Rules, the Code of Conduct, and any other rules and procedures put in place during each of the individual Stages.

3.2 Registration

For more information about registering for the Competition on the Competition Website as a Coordinator or Player view the PCL Getting Started Guide. Prior to registration, Coordinators and Players must provide a valid Game Account. Only Players whose Game Accounts match those on the Roster are eligible to play in the Competition. Any Roster using a Player whose Game Account is not listed on the Roster will forfeit all affected Matches. Players are also required to add their in-game rank during registration. Any Roster that has Player(s) without their in-game rank submitted during registration will not be considered properly registered.

3.3 Seasonal Play

Rosters will have three different pools to select from during Registration. Coordinators are responsible for registering their Roster for the correct pool. Once registrations for a pool is closed, no Rosters will be added. Below are the three different pools for registration:

  • Premier

  • Ranked

  • UREC

3.3.1 Reporting Rank

At the time of registration or during a mid-season Roster addition, Players will provide their in-game Peak Rank during the current season or the season prior, whichever is higher. If a player is unranked in the current and prior season, please provide peak rank from the account’s lifetime. If the account has never been ranked, please report unranked. For the purposes of seeding - Player(s) reporting unranked will be treated as the average rank of all their teammates with reported ranks. If all players on a roster are unranked, the average rank of the roster will be considered “unranked”.

As a season progresses, players may rank up after their original rank reporting. There is no penalty for players ranking up. If a player has incorrectly reported their rank, and it significantly impacts where their Roster should have been appropriately seeded, said Player/Roster could be subjected to removal of competition at the discretion of League Officials.

3.3.2 Unreported Matches

At the end of the Regular Season, any Matches that have not been reported will be treated as forfeit losses for both Rosters.

3.3.4 Forfeits

Matches won or lost by forfeit will be reported by the minimum score it would take for one Roster to win the Match (i.e. 1-0 for best-of-one, 2-0 for best-of-three, 3-0 for best-of-five, etc.), and will count towards the Regular Season standings. A Match will be considered forfeit if both Rosters agree to it in writing.

Any Roster that receives two no-show forfeit losses during the Regular Season may be removed from the Competition and if applicable will forfeit all of their Regular Season Matches, at the discretion of League Officials.

For Premier Division, a School will be banned from Competition for the following Premier Season for a specific title if their current Premier roster either:

  • Receives “two or more no-show forfeits” in a given Season.

  • Forfeit a Playoffs match, including matches at LAN Championship events. The School may still compete in any Ranked Divisions as well as any Premier competitions other than the specific title they are restricted from during this ban; Eligibility Rules for the current season still apply. Exceptions to this ban may be provided at the discretion of League Officials, in the event of exceptional circumstances.

3.3.5 Tiebreaker

If two or more Rosters in the same Conference or Division have the same Record (W-L) at the end of the Regular Season, the following criteria will be used in order to break the tie:

  • Head-to-head record.

  • Game differential (number of Game wins minus number of Game losses).

  • Fewer forfeits and/or unreported matches.

  • Tiebreaker Match.

  • If there is a tie involving more than two Rosters and a Tiebreaker resolves the tie for a Roster(s), but leaves at least two Rosters tied, the tie(s) that remains will be broken by starting over the Tiebreaker criteria. This process will be repeated until no ties remain.

3.3.6 Divisions of Play

PCL features three distinct tiers of play, outlined below:

Premier

Our premier, high-stakes national division. Features round-robin groups and is limited to one team per school.

Ranked

Rank-based divisions offering balanced, high-level competition regardless of skill level. Utilizes Swiss format groups with multiple teams per school permitted.

UREC

Queue-based matchmaking without a ranked requirement.

The Premier Division will consist of Round Robin regional Conferences, with approximately eight Rosters in each Conference. The rosters with the best overall record (W-L) will automatically qualify for Playoffs. The exact number of teams that qualify for the playoffs will be determined based on the total number of teams registered for the Regular Season.

There must be a minimum of 8 Rosters registered for an individual Premier competition in order to move forward. If there are less than 8 Rosters registered for a

Premier competition, those Rosters that have registered for said Premier Division will be moved into the Ranked Division, at the discretion of League Officials. If this is necessary, League Officials will make an announcement if this is necessary at the conclusion of the Premier registration period.

In Ranked competition, Rosters will be placed in one of the Swiss format Ranked Divisions. Swiss play will have competitors matched each week against regional opponents with similar records. The number of Divisions will be based directly on the number of Rosters registered. Rosters will be placed in a particular Ranked Division based on their skill level (in-game ranks) at the time of registration.

UREC competition consists of participating teams joining a match-time "queue" and pairing with another online team. All teammates must belong to the same school/institution in order to participate in matches weekly. Registration for UREC is open throughout the Regular Season.

For Postseason, in the event that a qualified roster is unable to participate, disqualified, or found ineligible by League Officials, a replacement will be determined at the discretion of League Officials by selecting the Roster within the same conference that finished next in the standings. For example, if the 1st place Roster qualifies but is unable to participate, the 2nd place Roster will qualify in their place.

4. Match Setup and Procedures

4.1 Home/Away Designation

The Team that appears on the left of the Match page on the Competition Website will be considered the Home Team and must host the Match. The other Team will be considered the Away Team.

4.2 Coinflip

In the event that a coinflip is needed to be made for roster designations or match decisions, the command “!coinflip” can be used in the match lobby chat on the LeagueSpot match page.

4.3 Check-in

Prior to each Match either the Roster Captain, Coach, or Manager must visit their Match page on the Competition Website and check in to confirm their Roster’s attendance and participation. The check-in period begins 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time and expires 15 minutes after. Any Roster that is not checked in for a Match will forfeit that Match.

This may be waived by League Officials if one or both Rosters are unable to check-in for any reason, but the Rosters are online and in their respective in-game lobbies available to start the Match by the time the check-in period expires. If neither Roster checks in, and neither Roster submits a technical issue through a Support Ticket, they will both receive a no-show loss. Unreported Match losses will be treated as 0-2 losses.

4.4 Match Lobby (Match chat)

All Rosters must actively use the Match Lobby functionality, which is available on every Match page, to contact and coordinate their Matches with their opponents. Unresponsiveness to contact from an opponent may lead to the forfeit of one or more Regular Season Matches at the discretion of League Officials. All communication between Rosters should take place in the Match Lobby. To open a Match Lobby, visit the corresponding Match page and click “create Match Lobby”.

4.5 Rescheduling

Accounts with the roles of Captain, Coach or Manager for a Roster can send a reschedule request on the match page:

  1. Click on the Reschedule button on the match page you wish to reschedule.

  2. Input the time you wish to reschedule your match to, then hit “Submit Reschedule no Request” button.

For the reschedule request to go through, a Captain, Coach or Manager from each Roster will have to accept the request on the match page. If the request is rejected by either Roster, the match time will not change. Another request can only be made if either side rejects the current request.

4.6 Coaching

During a Match, a Coach may only communicate with their Players before games, in-between games, during timeouts, and after games. Otherwise, the Coach is not allowed to further communicate or interact with the Players in any way (i.e. during gameplay). Access to a Coach Slot is not required for Coaching communications.

4.7 Mid-Match Break

Rosters may take up to a five minute break in between Games. Rosters may agree to take a shorter or longer break if both agree in writing to do so.

4.8 Substitutions

Rosters may freely substitute Players between Games in a Match, but the opposing Roster must be allowed at least five minutes between notification of the substitution and the start of the next Game. Players may not be substituted during an ongoing Game. All substituted Players must have been on a Roster before the start of the Match to be considered eligible.

4.9 Reporting Your Matches

Roster Captains and/or Managers are required to take appropriate in-game screenshots or videos that display the final results of each Game and should be prepared to provide them immediately at the request of League Officials and when submitting Match results. Failing to do so, or providing false or doctored information, may result in immediate forfeiture of affected Matches and/or disqualification from the Competition and future Competitions, at the discretion of League Officials.

After a Match has been played, the Roster Captain or Manager of either Roster can manually input the Match results on the corresponding Match page. Match results should be reported immediately after the Match is completed.

4.10 Disconnections

A Game must be restarted if a Player disconnects in the first round of the Game and before the first player is eliminated. If a Player disconnects from a Game after the first round or after the first player is eliminated, the current Game must be played to completion and the disconnected Player should rejoin as soon as possible. Any Team that leaves a Game following a Player disconnection, unless specifically provided for above, may forfeit the current Game, or Match, at the discretion of League Officials.

4.11 Technical Problems

Each Roster is allowed 15 minutes of pause time in a Match for disconnects and other technical issues. There is no minimum or maximum time that a pause may last, as long as it does not exceed the allotted 15 minutes. If a Roster exceeds their allotted pause time they may forfeit the current Game, at the discretion of League Officials. For example: If a Roster pauses and is able to resume play within one minute, they have 14 minutes of pause time left to use throughout the series. When a Roster has used 15 minutes of pause time they must resume and will no longer be able to pause a game in progress. Both Rosters must agree to resume a Game before doing so.

Please review your game title rulebook for any title-specific technical problem procedures.

4.12 Remaking Game

During the first round of a Game and before any Player has been eliminated, Rosters may agree to restart and/or switch the Server (if applicable).

Rosters may agree to restart and/or switch the Server (if applicable) if connectivity issues significantly hinder gameplay.

Rosters must restart and/or switch the Server if the Game is created with ineligible characters, weapons, map, items, settings.. Etc.

4.13 Acceptance of Play

At the discretion of League Officials, Match set up or procedural errors cannot retroactively be escalated to League Officials. This does not apply to Games that involve Player Conduct violations.

4.14 Forfeits

Any Roster that forfeits their Match in advance or is not ready to play their Match within 15 minutes after the scheduled start time may receive a no-show forfeit loss for the Match at the discretion of League Officials. No-show forfeit losses during the Regular Season count towards a Roster’s Maximum number of Forfeits, except under the following circumstances:

  • Technical/Connection Issues: If a Roster is online, actively communicating with their opponent, and ready to play, but is prevented from doing so by factors outside their control (i.e. server issues), the resulting forfeit will not count towards their Maximum number of Forfeits.

4.15 Spectating and Broadcasting

The Administrator reserves the right to record and/or and live stream, broadcast or exhibit any Match of the Competition, at its sole discretion. If the Administrator chooses to live stream, broadcast or exhibit a Match, the Administrator will choose to either: (a) host each individual Game, and all participating Roster Members on both Rosters must join that Game; or (b) join a Game that’s being hosted by a participating Roster Member. Administrator reserves the right to reschedule official broadcast Matches.

Any Roster that wishes to use an external observer/spectator is granted the right to do so unless the opposing Roster denies this right at least seven days prior to the scheduled start time of the Match (for Regular Season Matches). For Postseason Matches, Rosters may deny this right at any time. In all other cases, external observers/spectators will be

allowed. If “no spectators” is requested via Match Chat or some other means, any external observers/spectators will be limited to their Roster’s view only. All non-player observer/spectator feeds must include a 90-second delay and must be streamed on the school’s official Twitch channel; Players participating in official matches may stream the match from their perspective, but must include the same 90-second stream delay.

Schools that have been whitelisted by League Officials have been granted full spectator access for all Matches during the Competition (some restrictions apply). Opposing Rosters may not deny this right. To apply to become a Whitelisted School - please fill out the PlayVS College League Whitelist Application. The full list of whitelisted schools can be found here.

  • Broadcasts must be streamed through the official program channel. No personal accounts. Multiple channels per program can be added (Ex: twitch.tv/SaintsGamingCA & twitch.tv/SaintsGamingCA2).

  • Broadcasts must be done from a dedicated streaming area that will not allow competing Players to hear casting talent or the production team.

  • Program must have a director, or equivalent, overseeing the players and production team.

  • Channel needs to be promoted and publicly accessible for anyone to watch. Broadcast must adhere to strict delays as per rulesets, where relevant.

  • Broadcasters must have no communications with the Roster while gameplay is in progress. Broadcasters may not interfere with match gameplay by any means. Whitelisted schools must provide stream links to their opponents prior to each match.

5. Player Conduct

By entering and participating in the Competition, all Players and any associated Roster

coaches/managers/trainers/etc. agree to adhere to and be bound by the Code of Conduct.

Violations of the Code should be reported immediately to League Officials using the Report a Code of Conduct or Rule Violation form. League Officials will review all claims of misconduct and may escalate to the Advisory Committee for further review.

Upon confirmation of any Code of Conduct violation, and depending on the severity of the violation, League Officials reserves the right to issue any one of the following penalties:

  • Written Warning

  • Game Forfeiture

  • Match Forfeiture

  • Player Suspension/Disqualification

  • Roster Disqualification

Repeated violations will be subject to escalating penalties, and particularly severe violations will be subject to harsher penalties up front.

5.1 Appeals Process

If a Roster feels that League Officials acted without all of the information available, acted in a biased or malicious manner against their Roster or Player, or acted in a way that is not within the spirit or the Competition Rules, the Roster Captain, Manager, or School may appeal the decision to League Officials and Advisory Committee within 24 hours of the original decision being made and/or communicated.

When an appeal is filed, the Advisory Committee will confer with League Officials, and the affected School’s Players, coaches, and/or administrators, as needed, to review all evidence and gather additional information, and then vote on the initial appeal with a simple majority needed to uphold the League Officials decision or overturn it.

Rosters reserve the right to appeal game-time decisions made by League Officials, but must continue to play out the remainder of the series until their appeal can be adjudicated.

6. Prizing

6.1 Winner Notification

Schools that win a prize (each a “Prize”) will be notified by email within 30 days of the conclusion of the 2026 PlayVS College League Spring Season on May 3. A representative for each “Winning Team” will be required to provide a breakdown of the students who should be receiving prizing and what amount each should receive. This information should be provided within 30 days of the date they receive the email advising them that they are a Winner, to successfully claim the Prize or such Prize may be deemed forfeited. In the event of any dispute concerning the operation of any element of the Competition, or these Competition Rules, the decision of League Officials will be final. Any School (or an individual party representing the School) found to have violated these Competition Rules, even after a Prize has been awarded, will be disqualified and will be required to return the Prize awarded, or cash equivalent in full within thirty (30) days following notice from the Administrator that the School has violated the Competition Rules.

The list of winners will be posted on https://esports.pcl.gg/league once the verification process has been completed.

If, for any reason, the Competition is affected by any computer virus, worm, bug, tampering, hacking, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure or other cause which, in the sole opinion of the Administrator, corrupts or otherwise affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Competition, the Administrator may, in their sole discretion, cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Competition, and determine winners from gameplay already received or as otherwise deemed fair and equitable by the Administrator. Automatic gameplay is prohibited, and any use of automated devices will cause disqualification

Administrator reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate the Competition, in whole or in part, and/or to modify, amend or suspend the Competition, and/or to the Competition Rules in any way, at any time, for any reason without prior notice.
