The ChessKid Match Instructions for Scholastic Leagues

Updated over 3 months ago

Overview

  1. Review the ChessKid Rulebook.

    • Season Format: Best-of-3 (Bo3) Games

    • Game Format: Three Simultaneous Individual 1v1 Games

  2. Join the lobby and Ready Up within the 30-minute grace period.

  3. Communicate via Match Lobby Chat.

  4. Home Teams will create private matches and send invitations.

  5. As there is no advantage granted through this process, Team Members may spectate a game without following the protocols referenced in section 7.7 Match Spectating from the league’s Competition Rulebook.

  6. If there are any issues, finish the current game, then notify PlayVS Support for further assistance.

Please review the PlayVS Game Day Protocol details.

Setting Up the Match

If the lobby is already created and shared in Lobby Chat, continue to Match Protocol (All Players).

Player Rotation

Teams will select the order of their Roster using the Match Assistant (referenced below as P1/P2/P3), and then rotate pairings after each game in the following order:

Game 1

  • Home P1 vs Away P1

  • Home P2 vs Away P2

  • Home P3 vs Away P3

Game 2

  • Home P1 vs Away P2

  • Home P2 vs Away P3

  • Home P3 vs Away P1

Game 3 (if needed)

  • Home P1 vs Away P3

  • Home P2 vs Away P1

  • Home P3 vs Away P2

If all three games are played, then each starting player will have played one match against each of the opposing team’s starting players, with no duplicate matchups.

Side Selection

The inviting team is automatically assigned “White” upon match creation. To provide each team the opportunity to make the opening move for their individual round, side selection will occur in the following order:

  • Game 1: The Home Team sends the invites

  • Game 2: The Away Team sends the invites

  • Game 3: The Home Team sends the invites

  • Tiebreaker Rounds: Alternating

    • Tiebreaker 1: Home Team

    • Tiebreaker 2: Away Team

    • Tiebreaker 3: Home Team

Create the Custom Game (White Team)

  3. Under the Friends tab, search for the opponent’s username.

  4. Select the Challenge icon, then click 10 min to send the Game Invite

Match Protocol (All Players)

  1. All individual games are expected to begin together.

    • If a player is missing, then the individual game will be automatically awarded to the team with the available player.

  2. Each player will make their opening move to establish a Game of Record (GOR).

  3. Play out the individual game.

  4. Once all individual games are completed, return to the PlayVS Match Lobby page to report the results as shown in Section 3.2.3 Determining the Game Winner.

    • If needed, complete a Tiebreaker game to determine the overall Game Winner.

  5. With results recorded, rotate pairings based on the Player Rotation above.

  6. Begin the next game, as needed.

Post-Match Process

  • After both teams agree to the final game's result using the PlayVS Match Assistant, the match will be complete, and results will be recorded.

  • Take in-game screenshots at the end of each game for your records.

  • If the Match Assistant is skipped, coaches are responsible for verifying the results have been reported manually.

  • Matches without results will be quarantined and risk a match loss for both teams by default.

  • If the results are inaccurate, contact PlayVS Support for further assistance.

By default, rulebooks overrule match instructions. Please reach out to PlayVS Support if you find conflicting information.
