Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe Match Instructions

Overview

  1. Four (4) starting players per team

  2. Join the lobby within the 30-minute grace period

  3. Communicate via Match Lobby Chat

  4. Home Teams will create private matches and send invitations

  5. In-game spectators are not allowed for Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe matches per Section 7.7.2 of the High School Competition Rulebook.

  6. In the event of any issues, finish the current game, then notify PlayVS Support for further assistance.

Setting Up the Match

Important: If the lobby is already created and shared in Lobby Chat, continue to Match Protocol (All Players)

Create the Custom Room (Home Team)

  1. Open Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe

  2. Select Online Play from the Main Menu

    1. Choose 1p if each player has their own console

    2. Choose 2p if two players will be competing from one console

  3. Select Friends

  4. Select Create Room, then Yes

  5. Choose the Racer & Kart frame/glider/wheels, then click the A button to confirm

    1. Further customization can be done by pressing Y from the lobby in-between races

  6. Share the Room Code and Password with your in PlayVS Match Lobby Chat

  7. Once all players have joined, proceed to Match Protocol

Join the Custom Room (Away Team)

  1. Open Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe.

  2. Select Online Play from the Main Menu.

    1. Choose 1p if each player has their own console.

    2. Choose 2p if two players will be competing from one console.

  3. Select Friends.

  4. Select Search by Room ID.

  5. Choose the Racer & Kart frame/glider/wheels, then click the A button to confirm.

    1. Further customization can be done by pressing Y from the lobby in between races.

  6. Once all players have joined, proceed to Match Protocol.

Match Protocol (All Players)

  1. Once all players have joined the lobby, the Lobby Owner will finalize the settings for the lobby:

    1. 150cc Race

    2. Team Game

    3. Normal Items

    4. No COM

    5. All Vehicles

    6. 6 Races

  2. The Lobby Owner will assign players to their appropriate team.

    1. Home Team is Red

    2. Away Team is Blue

    3. Important: At all times, the Lobby Owner must ensure the correct settings and teams are assigned for the match.

  3. Once all players are ready, click OK to begin.

  4. All players will select Random from the Track List.

    1. If a player does not select Random, and that track is chosen for the race, then 15 points will be deducted from their team’s final round score. See Rulebook Section 1.6.1 Track Selection for further information.

  5. Once the race is complete, players will return to the lobby and select Random once more.

  6. Repeat step 5 until all six (6) races are recorded.

    1. In the event of a tie, refer to Rulebook Section 1.6.2 Tie-Breaker Resolution

    2. If the host disconnects, refer to Rulebook Section 1.4.2 Host Game Disconnect

    3. If a participant disconnects, refer to Rulebook Section 1.4.3 Participant Game Disconnect

    4. If a rule violation occurs, finish the set of races, do not submit results for the game, and notify PlayVS Support.

Post-Match Process

  • After both teams agree to the final game's result using the PlayVS Match Assistant, the match will complete and results will be recorded.

  • Take in-game screenshots at the end of each game for your records.

  • If the Match Assistant is skipped, coaches are responsible for verifying that results have been reported manually.

  • Matches without results will be quarantined, and risk a match loss for both teams by default.

  • In the event of an error, contact PlayVS Support for further assistance.

Important: By default, Rulebooks overrule Match Instructions. Please reach out to PlayVS Support if you find any conflicting information.
